Their first date was at the duck pond. If you’re from Virginia, you know what pond I’m talking about! Matt and Maxie met while they were in their undergrad programs at Virginia Tech almost 7 years ago. It was a match made in Hokie heaven! Okay, that was probably more than a little cheesy… but in all seriousness, these two are perfect for each other. You can tell in the way that Maxie wraps her arm around Matt’s waist and how he pulls her in close in such a calm, reassuring way. One of the words that came up while talking about their relationship was “supportive.” It’s funny because as I was writing this post, it totally slipped my mind that Maxie had used that word to describe her relationship with Matt and yet it’s one of the words that immediately came into my thoughts when sitting down to write about these two. When you’ve been with someone for over half a decade, you learn how to love and support them best as time goes in. Maxie and Matthew have experienced this in their own relationship in the midst of a long list of changes throughout the years including different jobs, moving to different cities, adapting to differing schedules, etc. and, as these two put it, “our support for one another has never wavered.” I couldn’t think of a better foundation on which to build a marriage.
I pulled up to Old Town Alexandria praying that there would be some gorgeous blossoms for these two and oh, there definitely were!! As we wandered the cobblestone streets of this historic area, I had to stop myself from spending to long in one spot because everywhere is just perfect. The cute colorful townhouses, the arching tree branches over the cobblestone, the brick sidewalks with stones for passengers stepping off of the carriages. The history here makes my heart swoon… and this springtime Old Town Alexandria engagement session was perfect for a couple that also has so much history together. I have way too many favorites and I’m not sorry about it ;) Maxie and Matthew, thank you so much for the honor of being your wedding photographer. I can’t WAIT to celebrate with you next spring! Until then, I hope you love every last one of these photos!! Xoxo!
Could you tell me what street it is with the red brick wall and arched door? It’s so pretty!
