I’m so excited to share Katy & Richard’s Langtree Plantation wedding in Charlotte, North Carolina! This wedding is a really special one for two reasons… for one, it was just one absolutely stunning day with every detail planned out intentionally and meaningfully. From the unique floral print bridesmaids dresses to the floating tulip centerpieces, this wedding’s aesthetic was unlike anything I’ve seen or photographed before! It was just so beautiful.
The second thing that made this wedding really special was that Katy & Richard were a Katelyn James couple. They hired my friend Katelyn (who was also my own wedding photographer two years ago!) to photograph their wedding and unfortunately Katelyn and Michael lost their son James right around the time that Katy and Richard’s wedding was happening. Yet these two actually sent Katelyn a bouquet of flowers on the morning of their wedding to let her know how loved she is and that they were thinking about her on their big day… I think that just shows what beautiful hearts Katy and Richard have, and how flexible, understanding, and accommodating they were with their change in vendors so close to their wedding day. I felt so welcomed and loved all day and that was such a gift to me. I was so excited to capture their day as best as I could given the circumstances and I’m thrilled to be sharing their photos here on the blog!
There are a few things I wanted to note about Katy’s details. She used her bridesmaids dresses as inspiration for her wedding day colors and theme and it was gorgeous photographing blues and purples with ivory details! She even wore a sapphire ring (also served as her “something blue.” Katy and Richard’s families are really important to them, especially their family history. They were married in the church Richard was baptized in as a child and where many of his family members are buried. They lined the aisles of the sanctuary with hanging framed photos of their loved ones who have passed and had wedding and anniversary photos in the vestibule for guests to see when they first walked in. Richard’s dad made their card box by hand and Richard’s mom made fans for the guests to keep cool during the ceremony.
Katy gifted her parents with embroidered handkerchiefs and gifted Richard a photo album she made of their dating and engagement photos. She even thought to give her flower girls bracelets that said, “”Today you are the flower girl, but one day you will hold the bouquet. Here is something old for your wedding day.” How sweet, right?! Their wedding date is now a shared wedding date with Katy’s parents, and Katy got up and sang “At Last” live to Richard in front of all of their guests at the wedding (and she was AMAZING)! Katy danced with her dad to a song he wrote and recorded for her when she was a baby… and I’m not sure there was a dry eye in the house! The entire day was full of sentimental details and little things to make sure everyone knew how much Katy and Richard love them. I think that is just incredible!
Katy and Richard, thank you so much for having me be a part of your wedding day. Thank you for trusting me with capturing all of these special memories, especially with the last minute change. Katelyn, thank you for asking me to do this and for entrusting me with the honor of serving your couple. It’s a gesture I will never, ever forget.
I loved this shot my second shooter Meredith captured of the send off!! Look at that car!!
Special thanks to these amazing vendors for making this day a dream come true!
