What a crazy time we are living in! We would never have imagined how much the world could change in such a short amount of time, let alone being pregnant (and so VERY pregnant at that!) while it occurred. Whew. I wouldn’t wish the anxiety I’ve felt at points during the past few weeks on my worst enemy. It felt like the end of the world stocking up on food in the freezer and pantry and seeing all the photos of empty shelves at the stores. At times, I just wouldn’t browse my feeds to give myself a break. It helped a ton. Our motto has been “one day at a time” and not letting the worries about tomorrow seep into today. That perspective has made such a difference for me.
As we get closer to meeting our little girl, I thought it would be fun to record one last podcast episode about being pregnant, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected our birth plans and third trimester in general. Thankfully, we have been planning on having an out-of-hospital birth since January before any of this went down, so we find it ironic that we had that plan lined up and felt really good about that decision once hospitals and their regulations felt a bit scarier than normal with the virus outbreak.
we can’t wait…
Ideally, we will still be able to birth at the birth center (barring any complications during labor or delivery) and get to be together the entire time as well as have our doula there. If anything unexpected pops up, Justin and I may be separated at some point or we may only be able to have our doula’s support virtually via FaceTime, but at this point I’m honestly just ready to meet our daughter in whatever fashion gets her here the safest and healthiest she can be. It’s just surreal to think about her finally BEING here and not having “Labor Day” hanging over our heads in the midst of all the unknowns. I seriously can’t wait!
I know God has such a beautiful birth story planned for us. He’s already shaped our hearts into something totally new as soon-to-be parents throughout this pregnancy journey. We’ve learned so much about babies, my body, each other, childbirth, and just the tip of the iceberg about having a newborn, though I’ve heard that part you kinda just have to learn as you go… ;) I can’t wait to learn together. It’s going to be the best experience!
tune in now!
We go over all of this and more in this podcast episode, including answering some questions sent in about our favorite and least favorite parts of pregnancy, how we’re preparing for an unmedicated birth, what we learned in our birth classes, and how COVID-19 is affecting our birth plans.
