It was about a year ago that I first came across the Creative at Heart announcement on Instagram. This new conference would bring creatives together from around the country not just for educational purposes but for HEART purposes. I was in London during the first conference and had just gotten back from Hawaii during the second, so I knew that as soon as registration opened Round 3 I would be signing up! This year has been a tough one for me. I kinda started this business of mine on accident. I loved photography for years and it was so strange to me that people were willing to pay for me to take their picture. Running a business is hard… and that’s a complete and total understatement. It takes immense levels of responsibility, determination, and intellect. I’ve been wearing so many hats these past few years and I’m still trying to get a grip on my sanity most days. But Creative @ Heart reminds us that that’s okay. We’re not perfect. We just want to love people. In whatever form that may take through our unique talents and passions. “You’re doing just fine” was a line repeated over and over and it couldn’t be said enough. I walked away from this conference with new friends and the courage to chase only what I’m truly passionate about. I can’t wait to get home and go over all my notes and really DIG IN to the questions we were asked. It’s so easy to lose yourself when you’re trying to balance being a business owner with the “social media spotlight” constantly turned towards you and just relaxing and being yourself! For the first time in a long time… I think I’m excited for the future. I’m rejuvinated. I have a DREAM and I haven’t had one of those in so long. How sad is that? I’m so, so happy I got the chance to be a part of #CreativeAtHeartRound3 and I can’t WAIT to hopefully someday be back in the future!! Here’s to the creatives…!
When you drive south on 95, you will come across a magical place called South Of The Border. We’re not exactly sure what it is, but we had to see it… because I hopped out of the car here countless times as a little girl. Hola.
I didn’t take any photos at the actual conference and it was WONDERFUL not having my camera in my hand for those 48 hours and actually interacting with people face to face!! Before the conference I met up with my friend Kelly and her roommate Alex for a bus tour of Charleston. It was long… but so much fun!
And of course… Meredith and I had to have a little photo shoot.
We also visited Angel Oak after the conference had ended and it was BEEEAUTIFUL. It just felt like I was looking at something magical! This tree is 1,500 years old… it’s seen so many people and felt so many hands…
And then we went to KIAWAH!! It’s technically a private island but we got the inside scoop from a local on how to get access to the grounds of a beautiful beachfront resort. We explored and took pictures on the beach and got caught way out at the shoreline in the middle of a downpour and it was awesome.
And the best part is I have so many more photos on film!! I can’t wait to see those scans! Until then… I’ll be daydreaming about beautiful Charleston over and over again!! :)
