Yayyy!! I’m so glad to be sharing the rest of our Europe trip pictures. Things were put on hold for a couple of weeks with everything going on, but I’m so excited to be blogging more Rome photos today! Our second day in Rome was spent exploring the Forum and the Colosseum. The thing about Italian tourism (that we could see) was that there really weren’t many plaques or free information about what we were looking at. So thankfully, we had Christian, who had just completed a huge research project on the Colosseum, to fill in the blanks for us there! At the Forum we really had no idea what we were seeing, but it was cool to try to imagine the Roman Empire at its peak, the chaos of the marketplace on a normal busy day, etc. The best part was that we were all exploring together! :)
I thought some parts of Rome looked so tropical! This was one of those spots!
Always being silly…
I want to say this was Hadrian’s palace! If I’m right, no idea how that name just came back to me in the middle of blogging these pictures after two months have gone by! Haha!!
Approaching the famous Colosseum!!!
I have to say, this was probably one of the coolest places we saw on the entire trip. It was just mind blowing to picture how many people this stadium could seat, and that it was SO OLD! They had the engineering behind stadiums figured out thousands of years ago!
So originally, there was a floor covering all of this down below, but even before that, they believe that the Romans filled up the bottom with water and re-enacted sea battles!!! Isn’t that crazy?! It was like Disney World. Haha!
They were re-enacting the gladiator battles…
And then it was off to the Forum!
Missing this Roman scenery!!
Because when else do you get to take a photo in front of the COLOSSEUM?!?!
I want to say this was maybe Palatino. I’m sure there are true Roman history fanatics absolutely loathing me right now for messing up the name of everything. Haha.
I LOVED the trees in Rome! It was the first thing I noticed and it was so Tuscan and pretty!!
And then Alexa snapped some portraits of us before the sun started to go down… :)
AND THEN. We saw Mamertine Prison where Paul and Peter were imprisoned for their ministry work in Rome during Biblical times. It was so surreal!!! And so cool to see!
That night was New Year’s Eve and we climbed up to the roof and watched the thousands and thousands of fireworks go off all over the city for thirty minutes straight. It was by far the coolest thing I have ever seen and probably the best New Year’s fireworks show we will ever see!!! Can’t wait to show you the video! We have one more day in Rome to share before we move on to my favorite part of the trip… LONDON!!!!
