I always get a little emotional when I’m shooting a family session. On wedding days, it’s easy to cry because everyone’s crying and the importance of every moment is so apparent. When I’m at a family shoot, it’s the thinking about the future part that gets me all choked up. When I was a teenager, my prized posession was a photo of my dad holding me as a baby. It was a part of a frame that had a music box on the back of it and when you’d wind it up, it would play a lullaby that sounded so familiar and comforting to me that I couldn’t help but cry when I looked at it… even as a 7-year-old! I think even back then I realized the importance of family and how beautiful it is to have a memory like that captured: a father holding his newborn child, smiling down at her, wanting to give her nothing less than the world and promising he’ll never let any harm come her way with just one single look. To say it’s an honor to be the one capturing these photos is an understatement.
I was able to meet Melissa and her family last Fall for her maternity session. Fast forward a few months and Lilith is here, gracing the world with the adorableness of her tiny fingers and toes! She is so precious! Melissa put so much work into her nursery and it’s beyond Pinterest worthy. I’m obsessed with the princess theme, the gold crown canopy, and floral monogram, and the Cinderella quote and carriage, the ceramic frog prince, the framed quotes… gosh I could go on and on! I had way too much fun photographing these details and I’m so excited to share them alongside the sweet family photos we took as well! I love lifestyle shoots because they are so natural and laidback, and really capture everyone in their own element. I even got to play a few rounds of Don’t Break The Ice with Sophia after we finished! It was such a pleasure spending the afternoon with this family and I’m so excited to share these photos… I know they’ll be treasured for years to come!
Someone is SO excited about being a big sister!!!
