Business Spotlight: Mastering Interviews

January 19, 2013

Okay, okay, so I know what you’re thinking…. isn’t this a PHOTO blog? Why is she writing about interviews?! Well, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, planning, and learning these past few weeks, on a photography scale as well as on a corporate career level. I’m currently working for a recruitment company for non-profits as a market analyst intern. Basically, there’s been a CRAZY amount of information thrown at me in a really short amount of time. I’ve been memorizing organization structure and job titles by day and moonlighting as a photography student by night. Today I watched my fifth online workshop since the year began. Fifth! My brain just might be on a little bit of information overload right now. I’ll be sharing some of what I learned about branding, editing, and designing for photography in a later blog post. And I can’t wait to share that! But for now, I want to focus on something that I think is really important. Like, really, REALLY important. It’s something everyone who wants to advance in just about any aspect of their life needs to know… and that’s how to have a successful interview.

I guess I should first try to establish some credibility to back up my claim to knowing how to “master” interviews. Okay, so I probably don’t have it mastered. I’m about 99% sure I DON’T have it mastered. But, I have had over a dozen interviews to date, including panel style and one-on-one interviews, and I’ve learned a lot from all of them that I’ve been able to apply to my overall knowledge of how to walk out of an interview feeling confident that you’ve landed the position you were reaching for. And, I’m not trying to brag (!), but I have landed every position I’ve interviewed for to date–that includes job positions, academic positions, and a few other various opportunities I couldn’t have gotten if I didn’t feel ready for the interview.

My belief is that everyone is capable of walking out of any type of interview and feeling like they just conquered the world. It’s one of the best feelings in life, and it’s one that everyone deserves to experience if they want it bad enough. So I’ve created a mini-guide to mastering your interviews and getting one step closer to achieving whatever you’re reaching for. I really hope you learn something that can help make this happen. If you have an interview in the future, and you feel like anything from this mini-guide was beneficial to you, please let me know! I’d love to hear about what you’re accomplishing!

Keep chasing your dreams!

And feel free to print and use the guide as you would like, but please credit back to my blog and/or Facebook page! Thank you! =]
