I am SO EXCITED to share this post! A few months ago, I announced that I was opening mentoring session slots for photographers or really, anyone who’s curious about opening a business or chasing big dreams. Sarah and I met last Friday and it was so much fun talking about the business side of things, like bank accounts, managing finances, expenses and taxes, etc. and the FUN photography stuff like posing to get natural, joy-filled images, composition and focusing, backlighting, and shooting in manual!!! I’m pretty sure I just talked Sarah’s ear off for the entire 3 hours, but it was good because she walked away with so much knowledge to apply to her photography business and a newfound courage to continue pursuing her passion with boldness and confidence! Woo hoo!!! I’ve always loved teaching, but I had no idea just how much fun it would be… and how fulfilling it would feel to pour into someone else! After I got home, I edited Sarah’s headshots right away (isn’t that backlighting so pretty?!) and sent her my thousands of words of notes on her session! I can’t wait to see how Sarah grows in her photography skills and business from here!! And I am counting down the days till my next mentoring session!
A two hour mentoring session includes instructional shooting time, Q+A, and some headshots! We also go over some or all of the following:
-Natural light techniques (finding natural reflectors, backlighting, and shooting in any weather condition)
-Composition (how to draw your viewer’s eye to your subjects using a few simple tricks)
-Camera settings (which mode to shoot in and how to adjust each setting for different lighting conditions)
-Posing techniques (overall tips to remember and then we can choose to focus specifically on couples or individual poses)
-Editing basics (software/preset options, finding your style, staying consistent in your editing)
-Marketing overview (Instagram, Facebook, and other social media tips, referrals, etc.)
-Time management (scheduling our days for maximum productivity)
-Client relationships (email templates, consultations, and making every client feel like a rockstar)
-Website and/or Blog makeover (we could spend the entire session just on this… it’s so important!)
-Business finances (figuring out what is possible, what is necessary, and where to go from there)
-Any and all other questions you may have!!! Nothing is off limits! I am an open book :)
