Our baby girl has her own room… it’s surreal! This simple, minimalist nursery for a baby girl is for anyone like us who might be renting, living in a temporary space, or just on a budget.
I honestly didn’t see myself sharing photos of the nursery for several reasons… this home we’re currently in is temporary for us – we are renters and are planning on moving sometime in the near future, and we didn’t want to really do much with decor because of that. I’m also kinda just insecure about my decorating abilities, as I’m SO simple when it comes to these kinds of things and just typically choose to go with what works/what’s easiest/most budget-friendly. Haha. We also especially didn’t want to go too crazy on decor since she will likely be sleeping in our room for a good remainder of the time we are in this rental, and she probably will not be spending much time at all in this nursery. However… nesting mode kicked in for me at 34 weeks and I really wanted to get something together for her, and all my sentiments changed!
the nesting is real…
It suddenly felt like I “had” to do it! It also really helped that we got some amazing gifts… pretty much everything pictured in this room was given to us… the crib, the changing table, the bookshelf filled with books, the baskets… her sheets, stuffed animals, even the photos on the walls were gifts from photographer friends who were so gracious to capture this season for us. The only things we bought were the blackout curtains (Amazon), the rug (Amazon), and the little baskets (also Amazon) to go under the changing table. We are BLESSED and so thankful that this nursery was truly a community effort and just shows how much baby girl is loved already!
The only thing we are “missing” is a chair… which, to be honest, I’m not sure could fit in this room comfortably It would have to go in the corner by the window and block the closet, or it would require moving the crib up towards the bookshelf, which would make the walkable space in the room extremely tight… we live in a TINY townhouse and I’m really struggling to see a recliner/glider in here without it feeling overwhelmingly busy or too tight to walk around in…
Nevertheless, we had gone to Buy Buy Baby a few times before the COVID-19 quarantine began to lay in some rockers, we just never made a decision and now we would be stuck purchasing something we aren’t sure we will like because we’d be ordering online. So… this is the nursery without a chair for now, if you were wondering where that part is. :)
We won’t be having visitors with everything going on anyway, so I’m thinking I’ll likely just nurse with my reading wedge pillow in bed or downstairs on our couch. If the baby comes and I’m hating nursing without a recliner/glider, we’ll just purchase one then… but I think I will probably survive for the time being! I think a “wait and see” approach here will be just fine!
we are so thankful
Everything pictured in the nursery is from Amazon, Hobby Lobby, and Target! Amazon was the only place we registered for the baby. What can I say… I’m an Amazon girl. (Everything for my wedding came from Amazon as well.) I just like all the reviews and the easy return policies… and nearly everyone has an Amazon account nowadays that makes it very easy to use/order gifts with free shipping typically! We got everything we needed from Amazon and it worked so well for us.
My favorite part of the nursery is obviously her bookshelf full of books I can’t wait to read with her (and hopefully future babies as well)! I also love the Bible verse frames that say “I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a hope and a future.” What a beautiful promise to cling to in the midst of such uncertain and scary times with the pandemic. We know baby girl’s days have already all been planned out by the Lord and her life is in HIS hands! So much peace comes with knowing and believing that!
We can’t wait to meet our daughter… only a couple more weeks it looks like! Though every time I get a Braxton Hicks contraction, I wonder if this is it! Lol! Trying to practice what we learned in our birthing classes, which is to NOT get excited when labor starts and to IGNORE it for as long as possible… my midwife today reminded me to relax, take a bath, go to sleep when I start feeling contractions and I’m practicing keeping myself THAT chill every time a Braxton Hicks contraction arrives (not every day but they have been fairly often at night now when I’m going to sleep)! So exciting… but also I need to stay calm! Lol! We just can’t wait to hold her and have her in our arms!
Thank you so much to everyone who has loved and supported us in this season. We are SO thankful!! I see this nursery and feel how encouraging it is to know we have people that are there for us. It’s the greatest gift! Even if you can’t be here in person, you are here in spirit through these gifts that made this nursery come together. So grateful. We are so happy. Thank you thank you thank you.
P.S. Enjoy the photo bombs from out toy poodle, Coco… she thinks this is her room… she loves “her” new soft rug… and she doesn’t understand why she can’t play with “her” toys in all the baskets… oh man. We are in for it! Hahaha.
And enter Coco… who thinks this is HER room… HER rug… and HER stuffed animals in the baskets… oh my.
We tell her “no” every time she reaches for these, but we’ll see when it actually sinks in that they are not hers. Haha. Poor thing.
“This is my room, right?”
38 weeks! Can’t believe there’s gonna be a little baby in that crib!
Just making sure everything is in tip top shape for baby sister!
She is obsessed with this rug.
Only a couple more weeks to go!!!
